october finish

This month's finish is a halloween quilt. My spooky halloween is 50" by 60" after quilting. The batting is Kyoto Bamboo Blend, very nice and soft. I used spray to sandwich it, the most scary part of the quilt, I think...

Blogger is tricking me, so I can't write where I want, now? A bit early for trick or treat?

Ok, inspired by Alissa and two cute prints from Sherri Berry (ghosts) and (pumpkins) Debbie Taylor-Kerman (again), I started the top this summer. Adding Sandy Klop's lovely geometric prints from my stash. Playing with new halloween theme fabric. Auditioning and rejecting, ending up with only orange, green and black colors. And a very "cute" look.

The back was more difficult than the front. I auditioned a lot of different fabrics before deciding on Sandy Klop's pretty orange fabric with tiny dots from her latest line: Recess.

Orange is one of my very favorites - can you tell?

The back is one width of fabric with the added 9" strip - ending in a 50" wide quilt. Almost like magic?

I'll share the secret. Some of my quilting friends insisted that spray adhesive was a good way to sandwich a quilt, and even demonstrated doing so. I had the spray, but had never used it for anything big. With the help of my dh's long and sturdy hands and the spray, the sandwich came together in 15 minutes. It felt like magic ; )

The quilting is a bit rough, wavy (straight) lines. I wanted the texture. Maybe it stretches the square blocks out of shape to much? Still have a lot to learn about quilting. Quite happy with quilting on the spray baste, though. Think I will try that again.

This time the label is integrated in the strip on the back. Simple...

So, this is my first halloween lap quilt. Love the back the most! This recipe works well if you like matchy - matchy and cute. (If that makes any sense to anyone).

Now, I want to start the next one, a halloween spiderweb...

How about you? Do you have any halloween quilts planned? Or any favorites that you pull out of storage in time for the season?

I know, there's still time. Just wanted to share...

I’m an orange girl and I adore your quilt! It maybe a Halloween quilt, but I think you can use it more often than on Halloween occasions!

I’m postponing to sandwich my little Halloween spiderweb quilt... maybe I should dig up my basting spray too!

Fantastic and that orange is really eye catching. I have a stash of Halloween fabric that I want to use for a spiderweb wallhanging, one day.

I really like this quilt. I like orange as well. Right now I'm working on a quilt with Picnic Parade fabric and I have chosen orange for the backing. I always use the spray on my large quilts.

I LOVE IT ! Good job with the quilting. I like the texture your quilting adds to both sides of the quilt. Sometimes the spray can be too sticky but I sometimes use the spray too.

This is SUCH a cute quilt. I'm a huge fan of Debbie Kerman-Taylor too (or is it Taylor-Kerman--I always get confused--I guess if I'm such a huge fan I should strive to get her name right!) I have a lot of her fabric.

Where or where did you get the fabric on the back--the amazingly cute pumpkins?

I LOVE this quilt!!! It's so much fun to look at, with the little ghosts and pumpkins popping out to tease you. You made it fun without being "too cute." I love your color scheme and the strip on the back with the label. What a great idea! And your quilting is just right. What a great way to start my day! Thank you!

I love your work. I like orange too but can't seem to get into Halloween. I use the basting spray and I really like it. No way I could get my husband to help me!

I'm not usually into seasonal/holiday quilts, but this is great.

And I totally love spray basting. I usually still pin a little, but I don't have to pin as much, so it's worth it.

Another great quilt. It's so fresh. Love the colour ratio.

The colours are wonderful and it's a great quilt. It's only the last few years that I've fallen for orange, I think the colour in todays fabrics are much clearer.

Oh, I love it, Marit! This one is definitely going into my inspiration folder!

I'm hoping to make a Halloween quilt at a retreat that I'm going to in a couple weeks. I've been collecting fabrics over the last year or so, and now I've got a big stack to work with. And I'm paralyzed! I just can't decide what I want to do. On the up side, I have enough fabric for SEVERAL quilts, so I have the freedome to screw it up! :-) I really love this - thanks for the inspiration.

Oh, and good job trying the spray basting. I've never even tried it any other way!

Hei Marit!! Annekari:-9

I love this quilt. I am an orange girl lately too! In fact I just bought bright orange towel for my bath! Never thought I would be doing that!
Did you use a pattern or did you just wing it???

This is a great Halloween quilt! Fresh, clean and fun. I love the back!

As far as your quilting, do you use a walking foot? I've found it a huge help when doing the nearly-straight lines. I haven't tried the spray yet. I've got asthma and I'm nervous about using it.
