stars, stars, stars ...

One of the classic themes of quilts and numerous quilt block designs - stars. I love most of them. They appear to be my theme for now:

My Weather forecast is coming together, 12 maverick stars inspired by Bonnie. Just love the random scrappiness. Not sure how to quilt them yet. The top is about 25"x32" and machine pieced.

This week I made this quilttop, starry night, inspired by Gwen Marston and Tonya. I cut into my precious cherrywood fabrics, (hand dyed suede look cotton) beautiful colors and soft to touch... I was able to purchase two of teir grab bag for crazies, over 50 pieces equivalent to two yards, this summer. Fantastic way to get a variety of colors to try out in a small quilt. Now I regret not buying more... Lovely fabric.... The top is about 21"x21", machine pieced.

And I used my new chalk pensil to mark the top (general's pastel chalk). So happy with this marker. And eager to start handquilting it.

I also started a second little star quilt using the same cherrywood fabrics, hand sewn over paper templates. The blocks are 8"x8". They are individually designed on a piece of paper, then the patches are numbered and cut in nine.
Very slow cloth... love to do some sewing by hand in front of the tv at night, very relaxing. Not sure how big this will be. I have some more of the dark blue background, but not much.

and here are my inspration, my very favorite stars: meet mars and venus

hope you all will enjoy the rest of your weekend ....

3 finishes and 2 tops...

I have some pictures to share with you. The first finish is my split 9-patch. It is beautifully quilted by Liz at Kaktus quilt.
This is my finished circus pinwheels tablecloth. Quilted in the ditch. I found the pattern in one of Kaffe Fassetts books.

Then my finished cuppaz, partly Jan Mullen, partly inspired by Tonya. It is handquilted with fans. My first attemmpt at this. I have used a quilting stencil to mark the quilt. Love the look of handquilting. Thanks to Tonya for inspiring summer classes!

And the vintage tumler is gotten bigger. I have added all my green and pink patches to make it a better size. I think this will be my next handquilting project.

This last picture is a flannel top for one of our sofas. No name for it yet. The fabric is so soft - Woolies by Bonnie Sullivan. I bought a roll of fat eights on my holliday of her spring collection and was able to add 2 patches from each of the of the blues and cream ( size 4" by 8") to make it a bit more scrappy.
My plan is to use it as a sofacover.
Autumn is coming soon. We have a few orange and red leaves on the maple three outside - so pretty! Just love the autumn colors! Dark evenings to spend sewing and quilting...
Thank you for visiting. Hope you will enjoy the rest of your weekend. And please feel free to leave any comments on my blog. Take care.

Happy swapper

Coming back from our long summer holiday I found the sweetest 4SQS waiting for me:

Paula W have send me this beauty, and she also included some sweet buttons, chocolate and fabric used in the quilt. The quilt is handquilted. And I simply love it! THANK YOU Paula W!

I feel like a very happy swapper. And the quilt is already up on the wall in the kitchen, and looking good there too.

We have had a very nice stay with family in Washington, US. I have done a lot of quilt shop hopping, seen some pretty quilt shows, visited quiltfest in Seattle and much more. Lots of inspiration, some quilting fabric, notions and patterns, filled up my suitcases as we returned back to Norway.

Here it feels like fall is coming. Rainy days. Still good temperatures.
