This quilt is inspired by an image of a man paddling along in his kajack on a quiet fjord, enjoying the morning sun. The name of the quilt came to me as the backing was chosen, it features stamps and old letters. A gift to be.

a sunny sunday morning

It's a sunny sunday morning in may. And I have a fresh, new quilt to show you. 

My "sea glass diamonds" finished (last night) at 50" by 72". Pieced and quilted with Aurifil thread (which I have come to really love as my sometimes temperamental machine behaved perfectly).

The vintage sheets top paired with Hobbs Thermore polyester batting and the soft cotton voile (54" wide) came together like a dream. I basted it hanging on the wall, with pins. Quilted it using fixion pen to mark the lines. And it worked like a miracle... So soft and light. A true summer quilt. This is my 8th quilt from 8" like sided triangles. Probably not my last...

The hammock looks a bit lonely, so I am going to spend some time there reading my book. I'll enjoy the sweet company of my cat, and maybe even her new friend from yesterday?

What's up?

It's time for bloggers quilt festival fall 2012, hosted by the lovely Amy. And we have a quilt we want to share with you all:

It's hand-quilted with perle no16, using an embroidery needle. If you are a regular visitor to my blog, you may know that this summer was my summer of making triangle quilts.

Ghastly triangles is my 7th and last triangle quilt started this summer. They are all lap size and quilted by hand. Six of the are living with me. As you understand, I got quite carried away, having so much fun with these big patches on my quilt batting design wall... 

My challenge was to use fabric from stash. The last bigger piece of the Ghastly family ended up on the back:

september finish

Time for another triangle show and tell. Another smallish vintage linen quilt:

my cool summer breeze finished at 43" by 50". Hand-quilted with perle cotton on quilters request cotton batting.

These soft and romantic colors are photographed on a gray and rainy autumn day. 

Using a solid cotton for the back, the quilting is showing up nicely...

It has a lovely drape. The cotton batting makes it so soft to handle...

The size is determined by the content of my vintage linen stash, mostly picked up from Jeni's tempting store. It will fit my sewing machine storage unit, just like this one.

We are having rain showers with a sprinkling of blue sky now and then. Pulling out this quilt makes me  long for next summer. This one went by too quick!

end of summer

At the end of summer (yes, it is...) I've finished another triangle quilt.

This time in thrifted vintage linens. My summer meadow finished up at 50" by 60". It's very soft with it's vintage linen backing and hobbs thermore thin polyester batting. Another one hand quilted in perle cotton. I know, I am repeating myself. This is my sixth triangle quilt of this summer, only leaving the seventh top to be finished up. So, I am calling it a series. A study of the potential of simple triangle quilts.

This one uses the diamond pattern again, grouping the fabric in bigger blocks. Triangles still cut from 8" strips. The big scale organic patterns blend a bit together. Blurring the edges.

Really brightens up the table. Love the texture of the quilting in the soft morning light.  Not easy to capture on camera. 

In size I was aiming for a cover up for this bench. It's an open sided storage unit on wheels for my sewing machines. A special order gift from my brother. Made as a tv and stereo bench many years ago. Now it makes our dining room look a bit more as a dining room and a little less as a sewing room. At least until I put that last sewing machine back on top....

It's time for another show and tell:

Some of you may have noticed the new line Field Study by Anna Maria Horner is out. So glad I have cleared some shelf space...

The back is one of my favorite prints from her Garden Party line. The front has prints from several of her lines. And a checkered print, as well.

Hand quilted again with perle no 16 on thin hobbs thermore polyester batting. Soft, light, easy to stitch...

Lately, I'm drawn to solid bindings. And I'm happy with how this one frames and binds all the colors together. 

Sadly the weather is not cooperating with the post title. It has started pouring down rain, and we are expecting some thunder. Oh well, at least it's a nice temperature.
