wip - rainbow hourglass

A look at my "design wall" today. I have started putting together hourglass blocks made from 3 different American Jane charm packs, collected over time. Right now I have 180 blocks sewn together in tiles of 9.

I love the classic block and the colorful fabric. Have to play around a bit more with the layout. All together they are a bit busy. I am thinking about:
adding sashing between the tiles
putting them on point and adding white alternating blocks
using them for a frame around a central panel

Just one more tile to put together, and I can start playing with the layout. I'll also have to fix one tile with a block facing the wrong direction.

What do you think? Do you have any favorite layouts?

This is gorgeous. I really don't know how you have the patience. Did you really cut all those triangles?

Clare, thank you!
I put two squares together, and sew two diagonal lines along a marked diagonal line (using the 1/4" foot). I then cut the block in half, iron, pair them up and repeat the two diagonal lines. Easy, but it pays off to be accurate....

love that method for Ohio Stars too, plus you can sew them a little over-sized and square up if your sewing is less than perfect :). I like on point and as a frame myself, but Clare's right, it's all good and beautiful.

That is a gorgeous quilt in progress, Marit! Sounds like you will have a lot of fun figuring out the layout.

I love a classic simple block in great fabrics. I wonder if sashing would destroy the look.
