friday flimsy

The maple tree outside our house is gradually turning from green to orange -

inspiring the color palette and shift of colors in my spiderweb flimsy...

Thank you for all your encouraging comments about this wip! I have spent some time sewing, and some time with my trusted seam ripper.

I started out using several halloween themed fabrics. The blocks got quite busy, so I changed the mix a bit, removing most of the halloween prints and keeping the cats and some bats...

The halloween spiderweb quilt-top is now finished at 45" by 60". I am considering framing it with a white border. What do you think, does it need a frame or not?

Fall is being challenged by a (hopefully) short visit of winter. These last pictures were taken yesterday. The crows are regular passers by. Snow in october is too early, catching everybody off guard...

Wish you all a great weekend!

I love that quilt. My opinion, for what it's worth, is no border. Whatever you do though, I'll love it. The green and orange work together beautifully.

I agree with Liz - I don't think you need a border.
I absolutely love the new look webs, with the skinnier stars. it looks wonderful in those halloween colours!

brrr - snow! We have had it forecast, but so far we've not gotten any. Thankfully!

The quilt looks great! It really reflects the fall colors on the tree. You did a great job capturing that!
I say, no borders unless you need it larger. In that case, scrappy one!

Love the quilt, no borders. Sorry you're having bad weather. It's cold here today, but will be warm again for the next 7 days.

That quilt is amazing! It looks so crisp. It's obvious you've spent a lot of time on in. I would say put in a border, but I'm in the minority. Haha, even with internet anonymity, it's hard to go against the crowd! :)~

You were right about the fabric changes, it looks even more fabulous now! I don’t think it needs a border.

I vote for a border, but not white, I'd pick black or maybe green. . .but I'm sure whatever you decide it will turn out great. Lois

what a great quilt! Doesn't need a border...but it wouldn't hurt.

I really love your spiderweb, Marit! Fantastic colors! Along with Katy, the skinnier stars are great too! I'm on the no border bandwagon. Oh my goodness, I'm sorry to see the snow there ALREADY! Stay warm!

I say no border. If it had ended with full blocks a border would work. With half blocks on the edge I think it needs to end where it is. I love the shape of these blocks.

Please keep the snow and don't send any our way. We are having the perfect Autumn so far.

What fun blocks...intriguing! Oh no, say it isn't snow! Darn, is our two weeks of summer really over...already? :-)

I like it just the way it is and the shift of color is genius. But on the other hand, I'm sure if you decide to add a border, it will be stunning!

This looks GREAT! I liked it before, but I think your changes made it even better. I love the shift in color across the quilt. I often choose no border. But I am always amazed at your creative ideas.

I remember Kaffe Fassett saying you should let the design "breathe" out all the way to the edges. In other words, don't stop the movement of the design with a solid border.

Snow already? I hope the weather warms up again before winter. It is raining here again, and cold.

The quilt is stunning! I'm sure you finish the quilt in a great way. And I agree with Nifty Quilts don't stop the movement with a border.

This turned out great! I would go with no border; I think the top stands alone very nicely on it's own...

I have a maple tree in my yard that is looking all green and orange blendy like your quilt. Great job of capturing the "act" of autumn in fabric, Marit. I think the majority has spoken on your border delimma!

You don't know me, but I say no border. It looks beautiful as is. I'm excited to see how you choose to finish it!

my vote would be for no borders...it's perfect as is! I love the slight twist that makes the spiderwebs slightly square and the resulting stars skinny...beautiful!

Seems you've had lots of votes for no borders and I agree.

As for that snow...I really hope the wind in the UK isn't coming from the North-east...I don't think we Brits would managed snow this early on!

Definitely no borders.

I hear you about the weather. It's suddenly turned bitterly cold here and it's not even November yet!

I LOVE your spiderweb quilt!

If it wer emine, I might triple frame it..pulling that lucious green out for sure...

Thank you all for your opinions on finishing this quilt! There is a clear majority for leaving it as is, without any border. I think that is how it is going to be...

I so love that quilt! And that snow looks inviting! It was almost 90 here yesterday :(

Wow, you really captured the look of the trees that are partly turned. Wonderful! That must have taken some work!

I like the quilt top the way it is, but then, you always do something great with your quilts. I know you will with this one too.

You've been very productive this fall! Ooops, winter at your place. Ugh.
