july finish

Long time ago, there was a quilt-along hosted by Old Red Barn. Rail block from 2.5" strips.
I put them together into a top. And then put it away. For a long time...

The quilt top was quite busy, and I never got quite comfortable with it. Loving the colors and fabrics, this spring the top was rescued from the cupboard by adding 2" strips of Kona Snow.

Sommer i Bokn finished at 57" * 70", quilted with Quilters Dream Select cotton batting.

front

and back...

This quilt takes me back to summers with my grandmother at her little house on the small island of Bokn. Homebaked bread, selfmade jam, fresh vegetables from the garden along with grandfathers fresh fish. Running around in the garden, swimming in the sea, playing with my brother and cousins. Not a parent to be seen or heard. Closes there is to paradise, in a little girls world...

The Kona snow adds just the right amount of "breathing room".

Bare så flot Marit. Især måden du har quiltet på. Kan du vise et billede, hvor man ser, hvordan du har startet med quiltning?

I think you're right, adding the sashing made a lovely difference.

It's gorgeous and it looks so lovely on the hammock. I love the effect of fan quilting.

It's great Marit! Sometimes we just have to put blocks/tops away for a time....give them time to marinate into something wonderful! It just looks soooo cool and refreshing!

Soft and fresh, like a little girl's good summer memories.

Love the addition of the white -- it calms it and brightens it up at the same time.
Just what we all need -- snow in July! :)

I love the idea of adding strips - brilliant! It's so beautiful, and definitely reminds me of a day at the beach!

I also have this Old Red Barn WIP languishing in my closet. The top and back are complete, and one of these days I'll finish it up!! Good for you for getting yours done! That must feel awesome...

By adding those strips of Kona Snow, you gave our eyes a chance to rest between the busy blocks. An inspired choice!

In other news, I finished the spiderweb quilt I made using your excellent tutorial. The instructions were clear and I am happy with the result. Want to see? Here's the link:http://northernnewmexicoranchito.blogspot.com/2011/08/quilty-pleasures-wednesday-spiderweb.html

It's beautiful! And you were spot on with the white strips - they add the perfect crispness. I also love thequilting - makes me think of swirling water and little waves lapping the shore.
