two finished tops

The first top was finished by simply adding some white on the top and bottom, balancing it a bit more....

The second top was de-sashed and put together in a new layout:

Inspired by modernjax, the clever hostess of the Scrappy Christmas Swap. It's a lot cleaner look. The strippy border was craving a bit to much visual attention. Hopefully I will have this quilted by Christmas....

Sometimes I need a bit of time between finishing a quilt-top and quilting it, to make sure I am happy with how it turned out. And if I am not completely happy with it, I always struggle to decide wether I should change it or not. In this case, change was good. Do you ever redo a layout?

I love the changes! The christmas quilt looks wonderful. I have mine waiting for me to decide whether to change the layout too - I'm the same as you, sometimes I need to wait a while and have a rethink and go back to the top to change it a little.

I love what you have done I would not change it now. I hope you don't mind I would like a copy so when I am done with my Christmas swap and have scraps I would like to have your photo so I can make one myself.

De ser veldig bra ut begge 2!! Det gjorde mye med det hvite i begge ender. Og den julete, ble mye roligere, så den også når den hadde striptet kant. Det enkleste er ofte det beste?? AnneK:-)

Both of these tops are great but the second one really speaks to me. And yes I redo and redo and redo before settling on a layout. I used to think I had to quilt a top as soon as I finished it but I am getting out of that!!

They're beautiful!!! I really like how you changed the second one. I've never re-done a layout - by the time I get it together, I'm so sick of it I just want to quilt it. Then when I get that step done, I love it again, LOL.

That is what's so great about doing quilts improvisationally. You can change it without breaking any rules. It's yours, there are no rules!! BTW, I'm almost finished with my snowman quilt. Yours was such an inspiration. I'll post when it's finished.

I think both of your quilt tops are great! The Christmas one does look better now. Like you said, "cleaner". I really like it.

I've never re-done a quilt top once I have it together (but there's always a 1st time!). I do try different layouts before I sew it together. Sometimes it will stay on my design wall for a while, until I make up my mind.

The changes look great. I'm open to changing things if I know it's not what I envisioned.

I love both of these tops, but especially that top one! I can't wait to see how it looks quilted!

Love your tops, Marit, and your big white wall as well; want one of those!

Yes, I do change layouts as I usually design as I go. However, sometimes I just want it done and decide that good enough is good enough.
