finished top

The blue string blocks are set in a blue sashing. The top is all done, just waiting to be quilted. I posted about the blocks earlier. Since it is pieced on foundation muslin it is a bit heavier. I am thinking about having it quilted on a longarm. Size is ca 60"x75".

Do any of you have any experience and or advise on how to quilt this kind of quilt on a regular sewing machine? Ideas are most welcome...

Have a nice week, and thank you for stopping by ; )

quilt festival -spring 2009

Amy at Park City Girl is hosting a virtual quilt show. This is a wonderful opportunity to discover a lot of new bloggers and see and hear about their favorite quilts!

It is hard to pick one favorite, but I think mine will be the Spiderweb I am making. It is not finished yet, it will probably not be in another year. The reason for this is that I'm using my best scraps in this quilt, the fabric you love so much that it hurts a bit to actually cut into it and use it....

So, why i this my favorite?

It's bold, bright and cheerful colors
It's connection to tradition (very old pattern) as well as today (modern designer fabric)
I's connection to quilts that I have already made and gotten fond of

But maybe most importantly it's metaphorical meaning, embracing the connections this wonderful www and blogger has given me, all the inspiration and nice blogger friends I have made in the last year.

So I'll enjoy making more blocks as I go ahead venturing into new quilts, hopefully brave enough to cut into more of my most favorite fabrics......

project improv tops

Isn't this great? Jacquie has put together most of the project improv blocks into 17 tops and posted pictures on the flicr page. And I'm in with one block in this one! (The one kind of in the middle with the cat in center.)

It's so great to see the joint effort coming together. And I still can't understand how one person even with a bit of help, can pull it all off. Jacquie, you are amazing!!!!!!!!

If you take the time to look at the photo set you'll see lots of playful and colorful quilttops. I love both the orange/pink and the aqua/red colorways. So that's a though decision to make... Haven't really started on my own wonky improv blocks yet, and these pictures are a big inspiration....

Some clever quilters have already put together their project improv blocks..... Very pretty....

spring string fling

There has been a bit of sewing going on lately, and my second string quilt is coming together. It's sewn on foundation muslin that was intended for kaleidoscope blocks. Nice and thin muslin. I enjoyed sewing on foundation, making the blocks a bit bigger and then cutting them down to 10.5". The foundation makes the quilt a bit thicker and heavier. I would like this to be quilted on a longarm, we'll see...
The colorscheme is planned a bit: red x-es on pink background with a contrasting color for each block: yellow/ orange / green / turquoise. I like the result, young and colorful....
The strips are varied in with: 1.5" red x-es, 2.0" most pinks and 0.75" for the contrasting stripe. The finished quilt will be about 60"x 70". I think this would work well in other color combos as well. How about orange?

small signs of spring

Pretty flowers (crocus) opening up to a bit of sunshine today.

A bit of handquilting in the evenings. I made the top some time ago. Handquilting is perfect to combine with watching some tv. Easter is approaching with lots of murder mysteries to watch... I am all set.

4SQS5 - swap recieved

Today I recieved "Snowy Windows at Night", my 4SQS5 from Cathi in Toronto. It is very pretty. She made all those beautiful curved seams perfectly! I am very happy for the quilt, it is lovely! Thank you Cathi!

She also send me some lovely blue batic fabric. I am sorry the light is poor in the picture, it does not do the quilt justice. Cathi has posted a picture here with better light. You may notice two white pins in the picture, they are just holding up the quilt for the picture. I will hang it properly using the hanging sleeve.
