you got mail ...

... soon, Ayumi. Just a bit of flying ahead of me ...

Ok, maybe I sound silly, but it is my first original paper pieced block design. So a bit of twittering is ok, I think.

The Ringo Pie {a Patchwork Bee} girls are good at making challenging themes for their month's blocks. May theme was "delivering letters and packages". It took a few attempts and a bit hair-pulling to come up with a good idea.

Inspired by Harry Potter and Sarah, I decided to make a carrier pigeon... started sketching, numbering the pieces, trying to incorporate the beak and the letter. Not easy!

Being a bit late, I started making the block, designing as I pieced. The beak and the letter was solved by using a bit of 3D and adding a separate unit.

June is my month of this bee. My theme is
"in the summertime... things you look forward to, and things you enjoy doing"

I have a few ideas, maybe another paper pieced design is called for? It has to be simple, though!

Summer is still not here, and it's june already. I guess dreaming of summer is as good as it gets these days. Please share with me, what is your favorite activity "in the summertime...". If I use your idea in my bee block, I promise, I will make one for you, too...

; )

... pretty please ...

Marit! This is awesome! What a great idea and you did a fantastic job! I will trade you places - it has been over 90 degrees here - I am not a big fan of heat. But the thing I like best is a picnic!

Gorgeous block, it has an origami feel to it!

My favourite activity during Summertime... travelling to the Provence and enjoying the early hours at night, outside, in complete silence, with something nice to zip!
As this is not an option every Summer I also like to ride the bike in the countryside.

That's the cutest pigeon I've ever seen! And I love the fabrics in the background.

You did a great job with your block such a cute one.
In the summer one of my favorite things as a child was picking watermelon from the garden and eating it outside so we could spit the seeds at each other.

Lovely block. Very clever.

Summer means swimming, friends, entertaining and fun.

I LOVE your letter carrier block!! Really great. My favorite summer thing is to take the sewing machine out to the patio and sew outside. That would be a very difficult block to make, though! We have not had summer yet, either. Spring has been wet and cool. But we are supposed to get some sun this weekend, and I plan to take my sewing machine outside! I'll have to take it in when I'm done, before the rain comes again!

Your block really is amazing; it shows how creative you are and that your are an engineer when it comes to solving problems!

My summer activities hardly change from wintertime-except sitting on the porch with a book. I can picture so many quilters on their porches or decks, a book or magazine in front of them, a cool drink on the table, a hummingbird in the fuschia plant :).

I love your birds, the scrappy text background is such a fantastic look.

Don't know if you could make a block out of it, but I love going barefoot. Don't think that would look very pretty. Maybe drinking some lemonade in the shade?

You totally made my day, Marit! I LOVE this utterly cute block in every way! I'll have so much fun trying to steal the letter from the bird! I seriously can't wait to put together all my blocks! I am so lucky to be part of such a creative bunch!

Hmm.. summer time.. I enjoy doing tons of things, but maybe I really like going to fireworks festivals the most :)

I'm a new follower, and LOVE your block. The fabric with words - the pigeon...all of it!!
I really enjoy the farmer's markets in the summer...riding my bike to the market, and filling the basket full of fresh produce, and goodies.
