friday finish

Finally a friday finish to share:
my pushing up daisies is 67" by 85"
partly quilted by hand (the background) and partly by machine (the daisies)
started a year ago, inspired by Kathy Doughty's quilt garden party from her book making quilts.

My aim was to use the growing pile of scraps and bigger left over pieces of blue and green. I also finally got a chance to play with the dresden block. The process has taken some time, including a bit of considering how to proceed. The background came together fairly quick after grouping my scraps by color, the dresdens took quite a bit longer to materialize. This design is a play in contrasts of value. Some of the daisies blend into the background, others seam lifted out from the background. I spent a long time playing around with placement of the daisies.
The binding is also quite scrappy, as I happily cleaned out the leftover green and blue excess pieces of binding that I keep in a little plastic box, all cut at 1.25"

This quilt is very soft due to the hand quilting and the thin cotton batting. (quilters dream request). And I am still considering adding some quilting to the yellow flower centers (which is just hand sewn to the petals,) either by hand or by machine. For now I am just happy to snuggle up and test it

; )

Happy friday!

Wow, Marit, you did IT again! This is the best dresden quilt I have seen and my favourite! Colours are so beautiful, pattern is fantastic! I love how the colours MIX like in the garden. Perhaps you could stitch only few knots on the centers so they don't get too flat. This is so inspiring quilt! I haven't had any interest for dresdens but now I surely have! I wish you wonderful weekend and sunny autumn! x Teje

Hi :)
This is quite stunning! May I feature it on my blog please? I am starting a new weekly feature called "Caught My Eye" and will have a photo and a link to five things that caught my eye that week. Yours would be in my first post on January 2.
Thanks!

Hei!! Nå fant jeg en fantastisk quilt!! Wow!! Anne Kari :-)

I absolutely love this quilt. My mom had a picture of it from one of her online sewing groups so I did an image search to find it. She is going to try to copy it as well as she can, with turquoises, teals and purples for my newest baby girl's quilt :-) I like it so much I hope she can make another for my own room someday in greens and pinks! Gorgeous job and it shows your artistic ability that you put this together out of scraps!

Hi Marit, I've only just discovered your gorgeous quilt. Do you have a pattern? It's the only quilt I've ever seen that I would want to try making.
